Free Art For The People
“Find It, Keep It, Enjoy It, Share It”

THE CARDIFF1869 FREE ART PROJECT
The Cardiff1869 Free Art Project is an ongoing public art project, started
on September 29th, 2011 in Pasadena, California. It is presented in the
Street Art/Street Installation style by an anonymous artist using the alias "Cardiff1869.”
The project was inspired by the factual history of the Cardiff Giant (photo above), which was “discovered” on October 16, 1869 when it was unearthed
by rural farm workers digging a well in Cardiff, New York.
The Cardiff Giant is perhaps the most infamous work of sculpted art in
American history. To fully appreciate the Cardiff1869 Free Art Project, one should be aware of the historical backdrop from which the project evolved.
